On Thursday, a slight increase in night temperatures was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, with the forecast indicating isolated to scattered light rain and snow over the region in the coming days.

The Meteorological Office has issued an advisory from January 28-31, warning of potential temporary closures of roads in higher reaches and important passes like Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna Pass, Razdan Pass, and Zojila Pass due to the anticipated weather system.

Travelers are urged to plan accordingly, as stated by a meteorological department official.

On February 1, there is a possibility of light rain or snow at scattered places across the region.

In terms of temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.6°C, while Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 4.2°C. Pahalgam registered a low of minus 6.3°C, and Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 1.6°C. Kupwara town recorded a low of minus 2.9°C, and Gulmarg saw a low of minus 4.5°C.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.1°C, while Banihal recorded a low of minus 1.4°C, Batote at 2.1°C, and Bhaderwah at minus 0.4°C.

However, this does not mark the end of winter, as it is followed by a 20-day period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ from January 30 to February 19, and a 10-day period known as ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) from February 20 to March 1.
